Brightspace Capture Encoder

Conduct live webcasts and offline recordings from your own computer's Brightspace Capture Encoder. Brightspace Capture Encoder is installed on a PC, Mac, or Brightspace Capture Station, and its essential functions are to record and stream your CaptureCast presentations. After you finish recording a presentation, Brightspace Capture Encoder enables you to publish it to Brightspace Capture Portal and in Brightspace Learning Environment for on-demand viewing and further editing.

Brightspace Capture Station

Use Brightspace Capture Station to record automated presentations at a physical location such as a classroom, lecture hall, or conference area. Brightspace Capture Station is a workstation with high performance interfaces for cameras and microphones, utilizing Brightspace Capture Encoder to record course sessions automatically at preset times and dates.

Brightspace Capture Portal

Once you create a webcast or an offline recording with Brightspace Capture Encoder, you can share it on Brightspace Capture Portal for live or on-demand viewing. Brightspace Capture Portal is a web-based application you can use to:

  • Manage and edit on-demand CaptureCast presentations
  • Manage live event schedules
  • Upload and publish non-Capture video files
  • Monitor Brightspace Capture Station automation
  • Manage users, groups, and their access levels
  • Manage sub-portals for various tenants

Brightspace Capture Station is monitored through Brightspace Capture Portal, allowing you to remotely schedule the station to start recording and/or live streaming at pre-determined times. Brightspace Capture Portal users can log in to view live webcasts (e.g. live events), a calendar schedule of live events, and on-demand CaptureCast presentations (e.g. published live events and offline recordings).

Brightspace Capture Central: Brightspace Capture in Brightspace Learning Environment

Similar to Brightspace Capture Portal, Brightspace Capture Central enables you to create live events, publish, manage, and edit presentations for on-demand viewing, all in Brightspace Learning Environment. Brightspace Learning Environment users can view your live events and published presentations within their courses after you embed your presentations into course content or via the Capture widget on the course homepage.

Once you create a live event or publish a presentation, you can embed your CaptureCast presentation into course content anywhere Brightspace Editor is available.

Notes:

  • Learners do not have access to Brightspace Capture Central. Brightspace Capture Central is for creating and managing CaptureCast presentations only.
  • Brightspace Capture Central is available to users who have Brightspace Capture 7.5 or later, and are using Brightspace Learning Environment 10.1 or later.
  • Although Brightspace Capture Portal allows you to add attachments to presentations, Brightspace Capture Central in Brightspace Learning Environment does not provide this support. In addition, attachments added in Brightspace Capture Portal do not display in Brightspace Capture Central. If you are using Brightspace Capture Central, use Brightspace Learning Environment to add attachments to course content.
