Enabling image-based navigation

Image-based navigation is an image-focused navigation feature in Daylight to aid pre-readers in navigating Brightspace Learning Environment. In this mode images supplement text links within Daylight. You can use the available images for the most commonly used system links or upload custom images.

Images are sized to 60 pixels by 60 pixels and associated with their corresponding link in the navigation bar. A pull-out menu allows for all icons to be seen at once, rather than appearing in a separate menu altogether.

To enable icon-based navigation

  1. In Roles and Permissions, select “Enable Icon Based Navbars” for appropriate roles.
  2. On the Edit Navbar page, enable the field “Icons: Enable Icon-Based Navbar”.
  3. Create an icon link.
  4. Do one of the following to upload an image for the link:
    • Click Upload to browse for a custom icon for the link.
    • Drop a file on the Upload System Icon field to use a custom icon for the link.
    • Verify that the icon that appears to use the system icon.
  5. Click Save.
