If this is not your initial set up but you want to change your Capture Portal connection, click Options from the main Capture Software screen, click the Profile menu to ensure your Capture Portal URL, Username, and Password are correct, then click Load Server Info. The Valid status appears once configuration is approved.
Note If you have problems loading the server, contact your Capture administrator.
Important Do not modify your auto-generated username and password. Your auto-generated Capture Software username and password might not be identical to your Learning Environment username and password, but you will still have access to the Capture Central tool in Learning Environment.
In the Options window, there are four menus you can access to manage your Capture Software settings:
A username and password are automatically generated for your Capture Software, and you can view this information by clicking Options on the main Capture Software screen and navigating to the Profile menu. In the Profile menu, the Valid status appears beside the Load Server Info button once configuration is approved.
By default, Capture Software uses its built-in encoder to capture and stream your audio and video in a CaptureCast presentation. If instead you want to use Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (FMLE), you can do so by downloading it from the Adobe website.
Tip If you are using a video camera and a microphone through USB connections, use a single device such as an integrated camera and microphone in a laptop, or a webcam. This reduces the risk of having separate audio and video sources that might record out of sync.
If you are sharing your desktop in a CaptureCast presentation, you can set your screen sharing options to record a video of your desktop, or take continuous screenshot images. Screenshot images are the most efficient and preferred method of screen sharing if you are showing static presentations such as PowerPoint or Word files. If you want to share a desktop showing continuous motion (e.g. a software demonstration), video screen sharing is the more ideal solution.
Note Video screen sharing requires more processing power from your computer and will require more bandwidth from your network.
Select the option that best fits your presentation and bandwidth usage needs. If you are doing video screen sharing, consider selecting a higher bitrate and framerate compared to simply screen sharing still images.
Camera 320 x 240 Controls the video camera dimensions users see in the Capture viewer for a live webcast or published presentation with a Camera and Screen layout.
Screen Sharing 640 x 480 Controls the shared screen capture dimensions users see in the Capture viewer for a live webcast or published presentation that has a Camera and Screen, or Audio only layout.
Note Default camera and screen dimensions are set at ideal resolutions to ensure your computer can stream your presentation successfully. Selecting a higher framerate than the default setting can negatively affect your network and video quality. If you believe these settings need to be adjusted to accommodate your specific Capture set-up, you can contact Desire2Learn Capture for further support.
