Inserting quicklinks in the HTML Editor

  1. Insert a Quicklink of existing items

You can insert Quicklinks to existing course materials such as discussions, quizzes, dropboxes, and calendar items in the HTML Editor.

Note  Users require the Manage Content permission to insert Quicklinks in to course files, ePortfolio items, learning objects, CD-ROM files, etc.

Insert a Quicklink of existing items

  1. Click Insert Quicklink in the HTML Editor.
  2. Select the type of item you want to link to from the list in the Insert Quicklink window (for example, a quiz, a course file, an external URL).
  3. Select the item from the list of options that display.

Creating new items within Quicklinks

The Insert Quicklink feature also enables you to create the items you want to link to from within the HTML Editor. These items can function as placeholder links so you can work uninterrupted in the HTML Editor, then finish creating the item in the appropriate tool later.

Note   You can create new items while inserting Quicklinks for all but the following:

 

Create a new item while inserting a Quicklink

  1. Click Insert Quicklink in the HTML Editor.
  2. Select the type of item you want to link to from the list in the Insert Quicklink window.
  3. Do one of the following:
  4. If you choose: Do this

    Course File

    1. Click Create New File.
    2. Click Browse to locate the file you want to add to course files, or simply drag and drop the file to insert it into your content.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • Click Create to add the file to the list of available course files.
      • Click Create and Insert to create the file and insert the Quicklink simultaneously.

    Note  Internet Explorer 9 and older currently does not support dragging and dropping files from your desktop into Learning Environment.

    External Learning Tools
    1. Click Create New LTI Link.
    2. Enter a Title.
    3. Enter the location of the LTI link in the URL field.
    4. Do one of the following:
      • Click Create to add the file to the list of available LTIs.
      • Click Create and Insert to create the LTI and insert the Quicklink simultaneously.

    LiveRoom

    1. Click Create New Room.
    2. Enter the Name of the virtual room.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • Click Create to add the virtual room to the list available on the previous page.
      • Click Create and Insert to create the virtual room and insert the Quicklink simultaneously.

    URL

    1. Enter the web site address into the URL field.
    2. Enter the Title of the link.
    3. Select a Target. You can choose to have the linked item open in the Whole Window (keeping elements such as navbars that might be present when a user is viewing the content), in the Same Frame (opens in the content pane), or in a New Window.
    4. Click Insert.

    1. Click Create New [item].
    2. Enter a Name.
    3. Enter a Description (optional).
    4. Do one of the following:
      • Click Create to add the item to the list of available items on the previous screen.
      • Click Create and Insert to add the item and insert the Quicklink simultaneously.

Editing HTML properties of Quicklinks

You can edit the properties of existing Quicklinks after adding them to the HTML Editor, or while inserting the Quicklink.

Edit the HTML properties of a new Quicklink

  1. Click the null Options icon beside the item you want to insert as a Quicklink.
  2. Enter a Title. This text displays in your content as a link to the specified item.
  3. Select a Target. You can choose to have the linked item to open in the Whole Window (keeping elements such as navbars that might be present when a user is viewing the content), in the Same Frame (opens within the content pane), or in a New Window.
  4. Click Insert.

Edit the HTML properties of an existing Quicklink

  1. Click the Quicklink with the cursor in the HTML Editor.
  2. Click Insert Quicklink.
  3. Enter a Title.
  4. Select a Target. You can choose to have the linked item to open in the Whole Window (keeping elements such as navbars that might be present when a user is viewing the content), in the Same Frame (opens within the content pane), or in a New Window.
  5. Click Update.
