Creating custom navbar links and link groups

Custom links

Create and add custom links to navbars to provide users with direct URL links to third-party tools, and other areas of Learning Environment. If you edit a custom link, changes are reflected in the navbars and org units currently using the link.

Create a custom link

  1. Click Custom Links from the tool navigation.
  2. On the Custom Links page, click Create Link.
  3. Enter a Name and Description for your link.
  4. Click Browse or Choose Existing in the Icon field to add an icon image to your custom link.
  5. If you have permission to share custom links, you have the option to select the Share with child org units check box.
  6. Enter your link in the URL field, or click Insert Quicklink.
  7. Select how your custom link opens from the Behavior drop-down list.

    Note  If you want to open the link in a "new window", you can specify the new window's Width, Height, and Browser Attributes.

  8. Click Save.

Custom link groups

Custom link groups are individual links grouped together into sets of links. You can create custom link groups and use effective link group names to suggest relationships or common features each group shares. For example, you could create an "Assessments" link group that contains links to the Quizzes, Dropbox, Surveys, and Self Assessments tools.

When you create a custom link group and add it to a navbar link area, the link group appears as a drop-down menu labeled with the custom link group name.

Create a custom link group

  1. Click Custom Links from the tool navigation.
  2. On the Custom Links  page, click Create Link Group.
  3. Enter a Name and Description for your link group.
  4. Click Add File in the Icon field to add an icon image to your custom link group. Browse and select your icon image, then click Upload.
  5. If you have permission to share custom link groups, you have the option to select the Share with child org units check box.
  6. Add new and existing links to the group:
    • Click Add Existing Link to add an existing link. Select the check boxes beside links you want to include in your link group, click Add.
    • Click Create Link to add a new custom link. Complete the Create Custom Link form, click Create.
  7. Click Save.
