Managing competencies

Edit a Draft or In Review competency's details

  1. On the Competency Home page, click the competency you want to edit.
  2. Make your changes.
  3. Click Save.

Note  It is possible to edit Archived competencies by setting their status to Draft, but you can copy these competencies and modify the copies instead of making changes to already archived elements.

Hide or show an Approved competency

Draft, In Review, and Archived competencies are always hidden from learners.

  1. On the Competency Home page, click on the competency you want to hide.
  2. Select or clear the Make competency and its children visible to users check box.
  3. Click Save.

Tip  Ensure the correct role permissions and Competencies tool settings are also set to display or hide competency elements from users.

Modify an Approved competency

  1. On the Competency Home page, click on the competency you want to modify.
  2. Set the competency status from Approved to "Draft" or "In Review".
  3. Click Save.

    Note  Users who are working on the competency can no longer see it.

  4. On the Competency Home page, click on the competency again.
  5. Make your changes.
  6. On the Edit Competency page, set the status to Approved.
  7. Click Save.

Copying competencies

Copied elements are saved in the same org unit as the original element. If you want a child org unit to have the same competency or competency structure, you can share it. But if you want org units with no parent-child relations to access the same competency, see Copying course components between org units for information about copying elements between org units.

Copy a competency

  1. On the Competency Home page, click Copy from the More Actions button.
  2. Click Competency.
  3. Choose your Competency to Copy from the drop-down list.
  4. You can modify the copied element's new name in the New Competency Name field.
  5. Select a New Competency Status from the drop-down list.
  6. Choose your Copy Options.
  7. If you are copying associated elements and want to rename them, click Continue and make your changes.
  8. Click Copy/Finish.

Archive a competency

By archiving instead of deleting a competency, you can keep a record of the competency and also the users who achieved the competency.

  1. On the Competency Home page, click on the competency you want to archive.
  2. Select Archived from the Status drop-down list.
  3. Click Save.

Deleting competencies

The following competency types are disabled and cannot be deleted:

Delete a competency

Deleting a competency element does not delete the entire competency structure. But deleting a competency element will delete users' results for the competency. If you want to keep users' results, consider archiving your competency instead.

  1. On the Competency Home page, click Delete from the More Actions button.
  2. Select the check boxes beside the competencies you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete Selected.
