Creating learning activity descriptions for the Learning Activity Library
The Learning Activity Library enables you to create and manage a list of activity descriptions for use in designing courses using the Instructional Design Wizard. You can create and manage activity descriptions at the org-level and in individual org units.
Creating org unit and org-level activity descriptions
When you create activity descriptions at the org-level they are available to all child org units. Activity descriptions you create for an org unit, are also available for that org unit's children, but not for the org unit's parent or the org-level.
Creating a new activity description requires you to choose:
- category by which the Learning Activity Library groups the activity description
- purpose the activity description serves; either as content or as an assessment
- which cognitive skills (from Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Skills) apply
- instructional approaches that are possible (e.g., direct, indirect, independent)
Create a new activity description description
- Start from My Home for an org-level activity description, or from a course or other org unit to create activity descriptions for that org unit and its child org units.
- Click the Edit Course link in the navbar.
- Click Learning Activity Library.
- Click New Activity in the Manage Activity Library's tool bar.
- Complete the form, choosing a Name, Category, and Purpose.
- You can also add a Description of the activity description and Instructions for it.
- Choose one or more of the Cognitive Skills from Bloom's Taxonomy that the activity description develops.
- Select one or more Instructional Strategies that are possible using this activity description.
- Click Save.
Creating an activity description by copying existing activity descriptions
Creating an activity description by copying existing ones enables you to use existing activity descriptions as a basis, or template, for your own. You can create a slightly modified version of an activity description and use that in your org unit while you deactivate the org-level activity description on which it's based.
Create an activity description by copying
- Start from My Home for an org-level activity description, or from in a course or other org unit to create activity descriptions unique to that org unit.
- Click the Edit Course link in the navbar.
- Click Learning Activity Library.
- Click the Copy icon in the Actions column.
- Click the Edit icon for the copied activity description, or click its Name to open it and make the changes you want.
- Click Save.
